Innumeracy in the Record

From the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, Friday, November 17, 2006,
page C1:

"Thirty years later, I've now written a newspaper column every week, 52 weeks a year, a total of 5,230 articles. It's an experience I wouldn't have missed. And what have I learned?"

Clearly not multiplication.

This looks like a typo. I bet the original article read "52x30" and it got automagically spell checked into 5230.

I don't think it's a pure typo. Throughout the article he refers to "more than 5000 columns". I think probably what happened is that he wrote down 52.30 and forgot later to multiply it out.

Well, how about this for inchemistracy: last night (20 Nov 2006)on Market place, Miranda Kennedy said, “India exports iron ore to China — lots and lots of it — to feed China's massive energy needs.”
