Yes, they're coming back big time in the Boston area. I'm not sure why but clearly they're adapting to suburban life. It's a bit shocking to walk outside in the early evening and see big black blobs roosting in thin tree branches about 40-50 feet in the air.
Many of the Toms are so tame you could bow hunt them without the bow.
We had three walk through our yard in Newton Center a couple of years ago, and they ambled about for so long I had time to video them.

John - I'm on sabbatical at MIT this year, living in Newton, near Crystal Lake.
Crystal Lake is beautiful. We almost bought a house one street back from there. We should meet for coffee sometime (or a beer), if you're not swamped with projects. Would love to discuss ID and other denialisms, etc.
